Isn't it?
Yet if you search for the word within Wikipedia, you're offered a range of explanations ranging from applied computing logic, various films associated by title, to the commercial area of honey production. All of these descriptions apply, but for the moment, let's consider it logically as bigger or better.
(Wikipedia results for 'Super' - click here)
'Natural' is immediately associated within the frame of the physical universe, in so far as we understand, know and can scientifically explain it. Right? Or, we just acknowledge that it is 'natural' because, even without scientific evidence to corroborate, we accept it because it's normal to us and within our experience.
Interestingly, perhaps, there is no universal scientific agreement on the definition of Life, though it is accepted to exist and certain principles associated are agreed - in principle.
(see Wikipedia 'Nature' - subheading -'Life')
If we put the two words 'Super' and 'Natural' together, we have 'Supernatural'.
Strangely there's a completely different appreciation and division of perspective.
The two words and their definitions remain constant, their meanings did not change by combination yet few are prepared to acknowledge the existence of anything supernatural and often those who Do are considered to be lacking in logic. Before I comment on anything supernatural....
Let's see what Wikipedia offers for 'Logic' shall we?
Within all the historical, modern, scientific, mathematical and dialectical definitions, et al, in effect, Logic means pretty much whatever you want it to mean provided you can make a convincing, lengthy, philosophical, paradoxically inclusive and credible argument even to the (un)known (but probable hostile) audience. Scientifically, given that it's true to say established and respected scientists often disagree, to suggest a logical explanation that science does not accept does not prove it's wrong.
Applying, one form or another of, logic allows various theories to stand. Or, that is to say, as Friedrich Nietzsche summarised it and Wikipedia quotes beautifully,
"logic [came] into existence in man's head [out] of illogic, whose realm originally must have been immense. Innumerable beings who made inferences in a way different from ours perished".[38]
Thus there is the idea that logical inference has a use as a tool for human survival, but that its existence does not support the existence of truth, nor does it have a reality beyond the instrumental:
"Logic, too, also rests on assumptions that do not correspond to anything in the real world".
I'm now interested in checking out what information/definition we can expect in respect to 'extra' and 'ordinary'.
Extra - ("Extra", read all about it)
Apart from the 'non speaking actor', Wikipedia, it appears, largely associates the term with commerce and the media, but where's the simple description and definition for 'extra' that these commercial organisations are employing by association?
So, without animadversion, let's skip across to Wiktionary for a simpler explanation
To summarise, Extra means:- More than
And you can add your own descriptive explanation to what that is or maybe applied to, as shall I.
What about 'Ordinary' ? Sticking with Wiktionary we find that it's principle meaning is 'Order', though, and without changing context here, that word in itself maybe defined or interpreted in various ways depending upon context.
And so, Extraordinary simply means more than order.
Moving onto the Supernatural - immediately definition tells us this is something other than anything generally accepted as normal, natural or human.
Explicitly, it is something immeasurable and uncommon. Though no examples are included.
Now, if you will, come with me on an adventure of definition in order to understand the associations with sacred vessels and what I mean when I talk about Hwicce (what?) and with, which wit Witches and witchcraft involve;
Witch,
If you followed the links, hopefully you'll begin to understand how the true meaning has often been obscured within various associations and how this has largely been due to changes in political/religious stance. How respect and appreciation for Witches - the genuinely different, gifted and inherently principled folk to whom the term applies - along with their crafts, have been lost.
However, underlying all of this (essentially) political machination lies the truth - Which is Also Associated with Witches!
Which?
When I say Witch, I mean someone with deeper, greater, intuitive understanding who invariably also applies it.
It is the real and natural innate ability that some are born with which makes them different, though that difference is not immediately obvious to them. It is for this reason that it is generally appreciated that Witches are born so, rather than someone being trained or able to acquire and develop the associated skills as a potential career option. Let's keep this realistic!
The real nature of witchcraft is not malevolent.
Nor has it Ever been.
It does not, as cinema or small screen or even written (science) fiction, suggest involve the ability to fly in the air, even with the aid of a broom stick. Genuine practitioners are not green in countenance with beaky facial features and evident affliction of skin (warts). That is not to say that there are not times when a Witch feels elevated. Nor does it preclude some ritual that may involve the witch having an appearance of different colouring in skin.
Features of Witches may well be described in unsavoury terms, but that and the skin tone are more appropriate and likely to be attributable to evident envy of those suggesting these are accurate descriptions. Envy, is something a real Witch is unlikely to have since that by their very nature they born with abilities that are UNCOMMON, unfortunately, they are more likely to generate these feelings in others, however unconsciously promoted.
So WHO may be envious?
And why are Witches so depicted?
Well, a picture paints a thousand words, symbolism is (or has) been interwoven within the frames of various forms of Pictures.

As there's more than one state of consciousness, regardless of your religious background and cultural language, an artist (craftsman) does have the ability to address each conscious state.
Specifically
- Consciousness :- In all it's manifestations, which (however you perceive and/or agree it) incorporates language in all It's manifestations.
- Subconscious : - Is a state that is held in popular language but not agreed by science. It is considered to be part of the unconcious or concious state and not a separate area or state of the mind.
- Unconscious : - Popularly understood as the area of overflow for the conscious. As we're unable to process all information made available during our conscious state, the unconscious acts as a repository or additional resource.
Without being an 'expert', I personally think this generally accepted order is inaccurate. For myself, I would place the order as following:
- Unconscious :- (Before we can state, with any certainty (and that maybe itself continue to be a subject of argument) "I think, therefore I am". This state precedes the developed skills to allow, comprehend and to Understand the premise sufficiently to comment, along with the ability to form the idea into language and speak/write etc, and be something capable and credible to claim the premise. Therefore, the unconscious is the primordial and primary state. All else is consequential to it in design, necessity and survival benefit.
- Subconscious :- Is the conditional state of the conscious, running parallel to it but underpinning. It's advantageous benefits are that it allows us to submit pertinent or relevant data associates within the memory and make decisions on premises with or without out any conscious narrative.
- Conscious:- This state of awareness allows us individually and collectively to negotiate, justify, explain and appreciate by communication. Facilitates acquirement of knowledge and share information.
Or to put it another way.
- Primary Self (Unconscious) - We breath, and our bodies function independent of any prerequisite thought.
- Interactive awareness (Subconscious) - Subliminal exchange of information i.e: body language and memory association. Without conceptualised appreciation, learning and knowledge is gained, shared and acted on. Even if the action is to store the associated pattern as a memory, decisions are made and integral.
- Co-operative (Conscious) : - Active participation and narrative. Justification, explanation and language skills are utilised. This last state sits upon the background of the previous, it's evolved as an advantage to the preceding states as our skills in communication have increased.
